So much content is constantly being put out there, it’s becoming harder and harder to keep up. Millions of people are letting their opinions be known to the magical world of social media every single day. What inevitably happens is that people can blow up trivial issues way out of proportion. Plenty of examples, that I’m too lazy to get in to. So I’ll give my opinion about this trend, which is that none of it really matters that much, even about the most important issues. Now I hear from people who take themselves very seriously, that this philosophy of thought is nihilism, and you should believe in something and yes it matters. I’ll share some common reactions to these accusations of not caring enough and the evil that is nihilism. “It is what it is”, “nobody really cares” and the infamous “who cares?”. Indifference easily gets confused with nihilism, and I don’t think anybody is ever a nihilist, but everybody is indifferent about a lot of things.
My personal philosophy is, that none of this really matters, enjoy yourself as much as possible, and find your own way of enjoying it, as long as it doesn’t involve fucking kids or murdering people. Most people agree with this to some degree, but always with limitations, which is good. But I’ve had close family members and close friends strongly disagree with my life style, or some of my choices in life, and it has given me some reflection and some struggle to figure out what the hell I’m doing with my life. I’ve decided that when in doubt, look at nature. Nature gives purpose and meaning to life, and has given our species many gifts, that a lot of creatures in nature simply don’t have. I’m lazy and I will never be proactive about anything, sounds really bad, but plenty of creatures like sloths and fungi are even more lazy than me, and they thrive in nature. Purpose you say? Nature says feed yourself and reproduce, enjoy food and enjoy making babies, what’s not to love? Meaning in life you wonder? Again nature to the rescue! We all have infinite amount of potential, and the key to unlocking it, is to find things you love to do, and pursue them with everything you got. No generalisations or absolutes, it’s not easy but you have to figure it out for yourself.
I’ve got this bad habit of being extremely sceptical of anyone, no matter what their authority is, telling me what to do or what not to do. Don’t be lazy, is one that keeps coming back. It really rubs people the wrong way, and I get it, but I don’t give a fuck. If I’m not actively hurting others or myself, I feel like I can get away with being lazy. Here’s my personal favourite: “But kiddo your throwing away your life, your wasting your time!” Guess what, it’s my fucking time and I’ll squander as much of it as I please. Nevertheless I still feel guilty, but then again, sloths don’t apologise for who they are, and neither will I. What I will do, is try and work on my weaknesses and self improve, but on my own lazy terms. It’s ironic how much effort it can require to be a lazy pothead. Finally, don’t take anything, including this epic blog, too seriously and figure it out yourself.
